Spotlight on Seojin
This is our player spotlight series. Here we look to find out a bit more about out players and their football influences.
First up is Seojin. She has been with us since the start and has helped organise friendly games and tournaments for the team. Let’s talk to the woman herself!
Could you tell us when you first got interested in football?
I’ve been into football since I was really young. I used to play with my dad and younger brother, sometimes at school with friends, and I loved watching the national team during the World Cup. I played whenever I had the chance, but I never got to join a proper team as a kid. So I’m really glad that I get to play with With Unity now.
Is there any team that you support?
I’ll be honest—I’m not the most loyal fan, but I do support Spurs. So many good memories with the club! I’ve spent countless nights watching their games and cried during the Champions League semi-final and final. I even went to London to watch a home game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. We beat Bournemouth 3-1, and I got to see Sonny score that day. Hands down one of the best days of my life.
You have recently come back from an injury. How did it feel being away, and how excited are you to be back?
It was extra tough because not only did I get injured, but I’d just missed a penalty in the third-place match at a tournament. I felt so drained, both physically and mentally. I signed up for a rehab gym almost right away, trying to fix it. But in the end, what helped me the most was my teammates. I wanted to play with them, for the team. That motivated me to work even harder to come back ASAP.
I feel thrilled to be back. I’m ready to lock in and give it my all on the pitch again. Burn the rehab gym, I don’t need it anymore.
Can you tell us about your most memorable times as a With Unity player?
Definitely the WUFC 1-year anniversary tournament. I still sleep with the trophy.
I’ve always been extremely focused on getting results, I couldn’t enjoy anything unless I achieved something. But for this tournament, I decided to just trust the process for once and focus on improving. I practiced almost every single day since July, and I remember sitting on the train to the tournament, already feeling content regardless of the outcome.
But winning was fun too!
Who has been the most influential person in your football life?
My brother Jihun. He’s been addicted to football for over a decade now. He got me addicted too. There’s no cure. We’re just stuck playing until we die.
We’ve played loads of football together and stayed up all night watching the Premier League and Champions League. He’s always willing to help me become a better player, always sharing everything related to football, always being supportive. I’m so lucky to have him. He even got injured a couple of weeks after I did. Twins!
Brilliant stuff Seojin! It is great to have you back and we look forward to many more happy times with you and WUFC.
